Write for us
Active Film Journal welcomes clear, original pitches about how moving images work. Send proposals through the Contact page, with enough detail for an editor to understand the angle and why it will help a curious viewer.
Subjects that fit
We consider explainers about image, sound, editing, performance and production; thoughtful comparisons of screen techniques; and essays that make a specific craft idea easier to see or hear. Proposals should suit readers without specialist training and avoid assuming access to private production information.
A useful pitch
Describe the central question, the particular point you want to explain and the kind of example that could make it clear. Tell us why the subject merits a standalone piece and note any sources or permissions the proposal would require. A focused idea is more useful than a broad theme or a finished article sent without context.
Originality and review
Submissions should be original, accurately sourced and written in the contributor’s own words. Disclose relevant interests or relationships and flag any material that may need rights or permission. Sending a proposal does not guarantee publication; editorial review may involve questions, revisions or a decision not to proceed.
