Active Film Journal

Editorial policy

Active Film Journal aims to explain screen craft accurately and plainly. Articles distinguish description from interpretation, define specialist terms and avoid presenting an opinion as an established fact.

Accuracy and clarity

Writers should check names, titles, terminology and factual claims against reliable material available to them. When an article interprets a creative choice, it should make clear that it is offering a reading, not claiming access to a filmmaker’s private intention. Uncertainty should be stated rather than filled with guesswork.

Independence and corrections

Editorial decisions are made for reader value and subject relevance. A partnership does not buy favourable coverage or editorial control. Readers can report an error through the Contact page; corrections are reviewed, and substantive changes should be identified clearly in the affected article.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid, sponsored or partner-supported material is labelled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial coverage. Partner placements are identified as such and do not imply an endorsement. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when relevant, captions or accompanying text identify that use, and images are not presented as documentary evidence.
